About us
We started this because too many houses here are uncomfortable for no good reason.
Family-owned, based in Southfield. The people who quote your job are the people who show up to do it.
Fill It Insulation is family-owned and based in Southfield. Not a franchise, not a call center that dispatches whoever is available. The people who quote your job are the people who show up to do it.
The company exists because of a pattern both founders kept noticing: homes across Metro Detroit that were cold in ways nobody had ever properly diagnosed. A bedroom that got written off as "the cold room." A furnace that ran constantly and got blamed for being old. Ice at the roof edge every February that got blamed on the roof.
Almost every one of those traced back to the attic. And almost every one was fixable in a day, for less than the homeowner assumed, by somebody willing to go up there and actually look.
What we believe about this work
Insulation is an unusually easy trade to do badly, because the customer cannot see the finished product. Once the material is down, nobody knows whether the installer sealed the top plates, whether the baffles went in, or whether the depth was blown to settle at the number on the quote or just to look impressive on the day.
That gap is where the bad actors in this industry live. Our entire operating approach is built around closing it — depth markers you can check, photos of what we found, and an explanation of the reasoning rather than just a price.
Our team
The people behind your comfort
Phillip Biss
Co-Founder & Lead Installer
“I started Fill It because I got tired of going into a friend's home and the house was just uncomfortable. Cold floors, a bedroom nobody wanted to sleep in, a furnace running all winter. Almost every time, it came back to the attic.”
Yoni Tolwin
Co-Founder & Operations Manager
“I founded Fill It out of a desire to create more welcoming and comfortable living spaces, after repeatedly noticing how some homes lacked a sense of ease and warmth.”
How we work
We measure before we quote
Nobody can price an attic over the phone. We put a ruler in the insulation and look at the sheathing, because guessing produces either a padded number or a change order later.
We will talk you out of work
If your attic is already at depth and reasonably sealed, the honest answer is that your money is better spent elsewhere. We would rather lose a job than sell one that will not pay you back.
We leave it cleaner than we found it
Floors protected along the route, vacuum on the way out. You should not be able to tell we were there except by how the house feels.
We show our work
Depth markers stapled to the trusses so you or the next owner can verify what is actually up there. Photos of what we found. Nothing hidden behind a foot of cellulose.
Local, and it matters
We are based in Southfield and we work in the same housing stock we grew up around. That is not a marketing line — it is the reason we can tell you that your Ferndale bungalow probably has a knee wall problem before we have seen it, or that a 1960s Oak Park ranch usually goes thin at the eaves because the slope makes the edges awkward to reach.
A national outfit sends a crew with a square-footage number. We send people who know what your house is likely doing before they open the hatch. See where we work.
Come see what we would actually do.
The assessment is free, it takes about half an hour, and it ends with an honest answer either way.
